  16. art; in New York. Rewald wrote a richly detailed series of scholarly
  17. classics that have served as foundation for the works of numerous
  18. other researchers, historians and critics of late 19th and early
  19. 20th century art. His favorite subject was Cezanne, whose subject
  20. matter he documented by photographing actual landscapes the
  21. artist painted.
